—————————————-
The Near One
THERE WAS ONE….
The cold stone bricks was where they lie,
The well of the family had run dry..
And everyone moaning on the floor,
Knew that they would soon be no more…
BUT THERE WAS ONE.
Only one kept up with the chores,
And only one made sure to close the doors,
So the leaves wouldn’t rush in,
Oh, but where do I begin…?
BUT THERE WAS ONE.
They didn’t have food enough to eat,
Or warm wool stockings for their feet..
Every night by the meager fire,
One of them would expire…
BUT THERE WAS ONE.
A cold and desolate thing,
The true nature of Death did bring,
Until they were pleading with a God,
And trying to eat even the sod…
BUT THERE WAS ONE.
Soon there was only HER,
They remembered her like a blur…
She cared for them in a dream,
She was not what she did seem…
BUT THERE WAS ONE
But there was one who watched over you more,
But there was one who swept your floor,
But there was one who came in the night,
But there was one who you did not fight…
BUT THERE WAS ONE…
And you did not run…
For you knew the kindest hand of all,
Was the one that had helped you to fall…
BUT THERE WAS ONE…
Watching over us all this time,
Who cannot help but end my rhyme…
We can all fall from grace,
But there is ALWAYS one…
Keeping pace.
THERE IS ONE
That you should remember,
Here on this bleak life’s December…
For when you shake with fear,
Remember that she was always near…
There is ONE certainty of Death,
And She is there with each breath.
